Stationery suite is the coordinated set of printed paper that accompanies a formal wedding, designed and printed as a single design project.

The typical contemporary suite contains: save-the-date, invitation, reply card with its own envelope, a details card (directions, hotel block, dress code, website), and an outer envelope; plus the day-of stationery (ceremony program, menu cards, place cards, table numbers, signage); plus the post-wedding thank-you notes. The suite can be all printed by one stationer or coordinated across vendors as long as the visual language matches.

What anchors the suite visually

The most-cited anchor is the invitation itself, the typeface, the paper weight, the color palette, the format, set the visual direction for everything else. The save-the-date is the trial run; the day-of stationery extends the same language; the thank-you notes close the loop. Couples who skip this coordination often end up with a wedding whose stationery reads as three different events stitched together, which is fine but less considered than the alternative.

Where the budget goes

The Knot's annual data puts stationery in the 2-4% range of total wedding cost on average, which translates to anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the size of the suite, the printing method (digital, letterpress, foil, engraved, calligraphy), and whether the design is custom. Letterpress and engraved invitations are the historically formal options; digital printing on heavier paper has narrowed the visible gap. Calligraphy on the envelopes is the small touch that most consistently registers as this was thought about.

What is changing

The modern stationery suite has absorbed digital extensions: a wedding website (linked from the details card), Paperless Post or Greenvelope versions of the save-the-date for casual or budget-conscious weddings, and QR codes on the printed pieces. The physical paper has not disappeared, formal weddings still send printed invitations, but the suite is increasingly hybrid, with the physical paper carrying the formal moments and the digital pieces handling logistics.
